Emmaus Newsletter 10

  • Emmaus

And I thought it was cold when I sent the previous letter!

Pilgrims

Our three walks are just around the corner. Thank you for your faithfulness in sponsoring pilgrims for the walks.

According to our Registrar, Pete Mundell, the current situation is:

Walks Invited, accepted Status
72 42 Full
73 42 Full
74 40 2 places open

As you can see, there is still room for 2 ladies on the third walk. If a lady comes to mind who you believe is ready to take that next step in her journey with the Lord, please let Pete have the sponsor form as soon as possible - there is still time to accommodate her. It would be a wonderful blessing if we can have THREE full walks! Speaking of sponsoring -we asked for your assistance in the previous newsletter to sponsor pilgrims. A reply we got from one of our members made us realize that some people took it as a request for financial sponsorship. Sponsorship in Emmaus is a spiritual sponsorship. Sponsorship does not require that you pay for the pilgrims you sponsor. Emmaus sponsorship means that you undertake to:

- pray for the applicant prior to the Walk, during the Walk + after the Walk
- explain the Walk to the applicant and his/her spouse
- discuss the Walk with his/her family, and care for them during the Walk
- encourage the pilgrim to leave his/her cell phone and computer at home!
- arrange for transport to and from the Walk
- participate in all the activities that make the weekend a special blessing, i.e. Sponsor's Hour, Send Off, Candlelight + Closing
- help the applicant attend follow-up activities after the Walk

For more information on sponsorship please refer to the form "New sponsors info and checklist" on the www.gloriosa.org.za website.

Gatherings

Our next gathering is this Friday, the 31st of July at Glen Methodist Church. Let's drive away the cold with our Gloriosa warmth!

Your presence will be very important, as the three Emmaus teams will be commissioned. It is always a very special moment, not only for the team members, but also for us as the community to send them out with our prayers and support. At the same time we will also be welcoming the new Chrysalis members in our midst. Please make every effort to be there! Please be there for the usual bring-and-share at 18:30. We should be finished by 21:00, unless you want to stay behind for the Chrysalis Bash afterwards!

2010 - Clergy for the April walks

The dates for the two April walks are:

Men: 1 - 4 April (Thursday to Sunday)
Ladies: 7 - 10 April (Wednesday to Saturday)

Those were the only dates available to us. Unfortunately, it is also a very important and busy time in the churches' calendar. We appeal to all Emmaus clergy to please try and avail themselves for the April walks, if at all possible. To the community, if you know of clergy persons who have been on Emmaus and who may be willing to serve in April, please give their names to Fred Schoeman. His contact details are 012 664 3751, 084 581 8139 or fredschoeman@mweb.co.za.

Gloriosa Board

Four positions on the Board must be filled for 2010. If you are a Gloriosa member you are entitled nominate a person for the Board. Please do so prayerfully and keep the following in mind:

1. It is a WORKING Board!
2. Members are chosen for a three year period.
3. Only persons who have not yet served on the Board can be nominated.
4. Board Members are expected to attend the monthly Board meetings, Gatherings and walk events.

If you know a community member who qualifies and have a servant-heart, you are welcome to fill in a nomination form (find it on the Gloriosa web site, at http://www.gloriosa.org.za/forms).
